The International Exhibition of Glass in Kanazawa, a prominent platform for contemporary glass, is seeking applicants for its 13th annual showcase. Artists from 40 countries have exhibited in this juried exhibition over the yeras, and the yearly event takes place in a Japanese city known for its history as a center for craft and traditional arts. Aside from discovering potential in current glass art works, the International Exhibition represents Kanazawa's bid for "synergestically stimulating" its local industries, as stated in the official announcement of the competition.

The Prague Gallery of Czech Glass has announced a call for entries to the seventh Stanislav Libenský Award. Designed as an international juried exhibition for glass art, the award is open to recent grads of B.F.A. or M.F.A programs around the world, as long as they used glass as an element in their final thesis project.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Emerging Canadian glass artists vie for $10,000 prize

Applications are now being accepted for the 2015 RBC Award for Glass, which goes to artists working in glass professionally for no more than 10 years, and who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Organized by the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery in Waterloo, Ontario, the competition's winner will receive $10,000. The jury is made up of contemporary glass artists (there is also a $10,000 award for ceramic artists) and is limited to artists who sell their work, and who have developed their skills "through training and/or practice in the field." The deadline for applications is September 14, 2015, and winners will be presented with their awards at a gala event in Waterloo, Ontario, on November 14, 2015.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Kanik Chung Memorial Fellowship debuts at Mass Art for Fall 2015

The Kanik Chung Legacy Fellowship sponsored by The MassArt Foundation and hosted by the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Massachusetts will debut this fall 2015. Aimed at recent graduates, the four-week residency and grant program is open to any artist who graduated from an accredited institution with a focus on glass within two years of the September 2015 fellowship start date. The deadline for applications is May, 15th 2015. The fellowship is dedicated to the memory of Kanik Chung (1968 - 2013), the glass designer, artist, and educator with a long association with UrbanGlass, the nonprofit that publishes the GLASS Quarterly Hot Sheet.

CALL FOR PAPERS: UrbanGlass announces October 2015 symposium of academics and educators

Two years after the successful inaugural symposium in December 2013, UrbanGlass is again partnering with the Robert M. Minkoff Foundation to present a gathering of department heads, professors, and educators to discuss best practices in the lecture hall and studio. The upcoming symposium, titled "Issues in Glass Pedagogy: New Technologies in Practice" will be taking place from October 22 -24, 2015 in Brooklyn, New York. The meeting of glass art educators will focus on new technology, with an empahsis on which of the new developments have the most relevance to the practice of glass art. The keynote presentation will be delivered by Tina Aufiero, artistic director of Pilchuck and the former director of the BFA Design & Technology Program at Parsons in New York City. Titled "bits + bytes: migratory investigations," Aufiero's talk aims to discuss the "technological implications for the field of glass."

The Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California will be hosting its third Clay & Glass Biennial in 2015.

Glass Art Society presents new Technology Advancing Glass grant

The Glass Art Society has announced a call for submissions for the recently created Technology Advancing Glass grant program. Generously funded by glass collectors Ted and Melissa Lagreid, the research grant of up to $5,000 will be awarded to an artist or group of artists to fund research into innovations that may benefit the glass art field. Ideas suggested on the GAS website include “new materials, production techniques, safe shipping techniques, new tools, adhesives, ways to create glass sculpture animated with electronics...”, but submissions are ultimately “limited by the imagination of [the] artists”. The winner of the grant will be required to share his/her research and developments at a subsequent GAS conference within the next three years.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Taos Institute for Glass Arts seeks applicants for 2014 Invitational

The Taos Institute for Glass Arts in Taos, New Mexico, invites artists to submit proposals for its upcoming 2014 Taos Art Glass Invitational, a biennial juried exhibition to take place from October 11, 2014 through November 9, 2014. The organization is dedicated to the expansion and appreciation of the contemporary glass art movement worldwide, and was formed in 2007, to keep equipment brought to the region by Dale Chihuly for an at-risk glassblowing program from being removed from the area. Formed by five artists, TIGA has brought forth its educational mission to the public through classes, workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, and events. The jurors for the 2014 event are Herb Babcock, who just retired as chairman of the galss department at the College of Creative Studies in Detroit; Tina Olknow, curator of modern glass at The Corning Museum of Glass; and Stephanie Grilli, an independent art historian, writer, and curator.

Glass: The UrbanGlass Quarterly, a glossy art magazine published four times a year by UrbanGlass has provided a critical context to the most important artwork being done in the medium of glass for more than 40 years.
