U.K. glass artist group to examine art and technique at annual conference

In October 2013, the Contemporary Glass Society will devote their annual conference at the National Glass Centre to an exploration of the tension between art and technique. The roster of artists speaking or demonstrating include such European starss a s Markku Salo (Finland), Luke Jerram (U.K.), and KeKe Cribbs (U.S.). The "challenges and opportunities for glass art are the theme," conference organizers write in a prepared statment. The October 12 and 13 event will take place at the National Glass Centre at the University of Sunderland.

Hot Off the Presses: GLASS #132, Fall 2013

The Fall 2013 edition of GLASS: The UrbanGlass Art Quarterly(#132) has hit newsstands and subscriber mailboxes over then past few days. On the cover is Dan Clayman’s work Tonal Shift(2010). Assessing the artist’s work, critic Robin Rice writes: “Daniel Clayman’s sculpture is quintessentially of this young century, but it grows out of the intersection of three 20th-century phenomena: the Studio Glass movement, minimalism, and technology.” Quite possibly the most refined glass sculptors working in the material, Clayman’s work is a quest to engage the essence of light itself.
