HELP WANTED: Alfred University glass department begins search to fill a tenure-track position

The School of Art and Design at Alfred University is seeking a full-time instructor for a tenure-track faculty position in glass, as part of the sculpture/dimensional studies division. The job posting for the position that will begin in Fall 2014 states that the ideal candidate will have a "vision for the future of glass in contemporary sculpture, and the leadership and collaborative skills to work across all areas of the glass discipline." An MFA or equivalent experience in the field is required, as is experience teaching and advising graduate students, as the successful candidate will be responsible to reaching both undergraduate and graduate courses.

"The successful candidate will become part of a progressive, successful, and growing, nationally ranked Glass Sculpture program," reads the posting, "and will have the opportunity to develop programs, curricula and facilities. Duties will include teaching three classes per semester, both undergraduate and graduate level courses in Glass, encompassing a breadth of approaches to the material. The successful candidate will also maintain an active involvement in creative activities, exhibition and/or publication. Faculty members participate in undergraduate academic advising, provide guidance in facility development and contribute to faculty governance within the School and the University."

Among the key qualifications after the MFA degree are the ability to work collaboratively at all levels of interaction, good communication and mentoring sklls, and a strong drive to develop the glass program. it is also important to collaborate with fellow faculty and studio technicians to maintain the glass facilities. Applicants who have experience teaching neon and light are preferred.
