MOSAIC: Below and a Bit Off the Top

John Drury

Join us at UrbanGlass for a three-session mosaic extravaganza!

Students will meet Friday evening at UrbanGlass and hit the ground running, exploring New York City’s glorious mosaic offerings below ground in the MTA’s subway system.

Utilizing that inspiration, and a brief presentation on the history of mosaic, we will spend day two undertaking our own creations. Students will investigate the direct method of glass mosaic, unchanged since ancient times, in this hands-on and fast paced class.

You will meet on day three to finalize and grout our unique creations. This is the perfect course for those comfortable with two-dimensions, interested to turn their doodles, drawing and paintings into three-dimensional works of glass art.

No experience with glass is necessary. Your mosaic will measure approximately 8"x8".

Meeting times for this course are as follows:
Friday, 8/11 from 7-9pm: Subway mosaic walking tour
Saturday, 8/12 from 10am-3pm: Lecture and Mosaic workshop
Sunday, 8/13 from 10am-12pm: Grouting and finishing of mosiacs
