Open Call for Glass Performance Artists for our 2025 UrbanGlass Spring Gala After Party:
UrbanGlass is excited to announce an open call for glass performance artists to submit proposals for an afterparty event as part of our upcoming fundraiser to be held on May 5th at 9pm. This event celebrates the art and process of glass-making, while raising vital funds to support UrbanGlass’ mission and programs.
Focus:
We are looking for artists who will transform the hot shop into a vibrant stage and activate it in a way that focuses on finding new applications for traditional glass techniques. Artists are encouraged to engage the audience and to curate an immersive experience in a festive party atmosphere.
Compensation, Resources & Responsibilities:
The selected performance/group/artist will receive
- A $500 honorarium
- Access to 3 gloryholes of varying sizes, 2-3 annealers (depending on the size of the work made), and a flame working station.
- Artists can also request assistance for set-up and the performance itself from UrbanGlass staff and volunteers from our artist community.
- Performers are responsible for hot shop set-up the day of from 11am-4:30pm and are also responsible for the hot shop clean-up which will follow the performance from 11pm-12am. Artists can come to pick up their supplies and the work made anytime between 9am-6pm the following day.
Jurying Process:
A panel of up to seven jurors, including art critics, curators, glass performance artists, and UrbanGlass staff, will review submissions. The group will select the artist/ artists based on the quality of their work and its alignment with the event’s focus. Artists should have some experience with creating glass performances.
Application instructions:
Proposals may be submitted by individual artists or ensembles. Please submit your application by 11:59 PM on February 21th. Notifications will be sent out by March 1st.
Your application should consist of:
- five (5) high-resolution images and or videos (up to 2 minutes each) of your performance work
- ONE (1) PDF file containing:
- A detailed performance proposal/ description (up to 500 words)
- Artist bio and CV
- A description of your studio needs, including equipment and assistance required for set-up and the performance.
