Two Day Pate de Verre: Dust to Delight

Class Schedule: Saturday, March 20th, 11am-4pm & Saturday March 27th, 11am-2pm

In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore the centuries-old technique of creating delicate cast glass from finely ground glass powder. Glass powders are mixed with a binder to create a paste, which is then packed into a mold and placed into a kiln for firing. During this class, you'll create a charming glass vanity box with a fitted lid. Prefer curves over corners? No problem—you can choose a square or round box, giving your finished piece a personal touch.

Day two is all about the finishing touches! We'll carefully demold your pâte de verre piece and explore a variety of cold-working techniques to refine the edges, smooth surfaces, and add the perfect finishing details. You'll learn simple methods that will make your vanity box look beautifully finished—and maximum cute, but not polished! By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a one-of-a-kind handcrafted keepsake that's ready to display, gift, or treasure for years to come.

Dimensions can not exceed 3 inches in either direction.

What to Expect: Participants can expect to leave with at least 1 object. Clean-up time is included in the duration of class, and usually the last 20 minutes of class are dedicated to cleaning your workstation. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page. 

Kilnforming work involves a mix of seated and standing activities. A particulate respirator mask is required when working with fine glass powders or unloading kilns after firing and would be provided for you if needed. Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.

Pick-up: The glass needs to be fused in the kiln and cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work. 

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. 

We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be canceled within two weeks of the start date of class.
