HELP WANTED: UrbanGlass seeks full-time educational coordinator

UrbanGlass, the Brooklyn, New York, non-profit art center that publishes the GLASS Quarterly Hot Sheet, is seeking a full-time education coordinator, who will be responsible for the day-to-day logistics of  workshop, youth, and university programs. The new position has been created in response to the growth of education programs since the 2013 renovation of the facilities at UrbanGlass, and more than 1,200 students took some type of class in 2015. The successful applicant will work in close coordination with the director of education and educational assistant on the organization, procurement, and inventory of materials, tools, studios, and equipment for classes. Other duties include a role in the planning for upkeep and improvement of the facilities and equipment. In addition, the new hire will be responsible for staffing events and programs as well as managing the payroll of teachers, assistants, and techs.

North Lands Creative Glass, the center for glass art on the northeast coast of Scotland, has announced a search for a chief executive. Reporting to the board of directors, the successful candidate will be responsible for this Caithness, Scotland, not-for-profit's overall strategy and development, managing and maintaining its finances, and fundraising. Working with the part-time artistic director of North Lands, the chief executive will be responsible for the organization and management of the well-known master classes, conference, and residency program.

The Hirsch Glass Curatorial Intership, as it is known, involves assistance with exhibition planning and organization, as well as opportunities for research and writing about the glass collection.

The Toyoma City Insitute of Glass Art, which has been offering 2-year certificate programs in glass at the basic and advanced levels since 1991, is looking for a professor or associate professor of coldwork for a two-year contract, which may be renewed. The Ideal candidate will have a fine art degree in glass, experience as an artist or in higher-education, and bring at least 10 years of coldworking experience. Applications must be received by January 29, 2016. The position begins on September 1, 2016.

The Royal College of Art, located in the Kensington area of London, is seeking a new head of its Ceramics & Glass Program, which is unique in only offering graduate-level studies. Masters and doctoral students at RCA are pursing glass and ceramics from different perspectives, including as product designers and individual artists, but all are driven by a desire to achieve material understanding. Reporting to the college's dean of the "School of Material," the successful applicant to head the program will be in charge of the academic direction, research, and resources allocations of the program and its staff, according to the official job posting. Key qualities sought are business acumen and creative thinking to help bolster the program's prestige as a venue where creativity, science, and technology meet.

HELP WANTED: National Glass Centre in Sunderland, England, seeks new director

The National Glass Centre in Sunderland, England — an ambitious hub for glass education, research, fabrication, and exhibition — is seeking a new director. The art center is part of the University of Sunderland, and also in the national porfolio of the Arts Council England, meaning it receives substantial funding from the British government. The gallery showing new design and sculpture using glass attracts 250,000 visitors per year, and the center also is the classroom and workshop for 130 students at the University of Sunderland's arts, design and media program. The ideal candidate for the director position will "lead the organisation through the next stage of its development, ensuring its place in local, national, and international networks," according to the official job posting.

British artist Emma Woffenden's three-year term as artistic director of North Lands Creative Glass will expire in 2016, and so this art center located on the rugged Northeastern coast of Scotland is accepting applications for Woffenden's successor, who will start on October 1, 2016. The Artistic Director advises the North Lands board of directors regarding the organization's artistic direction, and directs and plans its annual master class and conference programs. The artistic director also serves as an advisor on the artists chosen for the residency program.

The Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo, Ohio, is seeking an assistant manager who will work with the Glass Studio manager in the daily operations of the multi-use, state-of-the-art facility that is a major site for the museum's programming, education, and special events. The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the technical staff in maintaining studio operations, which include hot glass, flame working, kiln forming and stained glass studios as well as a mold-making and cold-working shop. "The position will be lead on all maintenance related activity and assist in planning long-term projects taking place in the Glass Studio," reads the official job announcement.
