May 6th, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Rosemarie Oakman |

Virtually explore funding streams and cultural opportunities with a focus on artists' residencies emphasizing glass art. The majority of class time will be focused on how to search for grants, scholarships, and fellowships, and how to write effective funding and project proposals. Rosemarie Oakman will discuss fiscal sponsorship and ways in which individuals can partner with nonprofit organizations to receive funding and project support. We will also examine cultural opportunities with a focus on national and international artist residencies.

We will briefly look at arts funding in the United States at federal, state, and local levels, and swiftly investigate the shift from funding Artistic Excellence to Artistic Access following the Culture Wars of the 1990s. The class will also touch on some of the tools that are helpful in the pursuit of artist opportunities, including an up-to-date resume, artist bio and statement, website, and social media presence. Participants will be supplied with relevant handouts before the course via email.

This is a virtual class taking place online via Zoom. A Zoom link will be emailed to you upon registration with further instructions for accessing the class.
