Stained Glass: 3D Forms in Glass

Make your stained glass practice into three dimensions in this intermediate-level course. Designed for students who have completed an introductory stained glass class and are comfortable with the copper foil method, this course explores how flat glass panels can be transformed into sculptural 3D forms.

Students will choose between a square prism or pyramid template and develop an original design using color, texture, shape, and light. Working within these geometric forms, students will learn to plan for proportion, fit, and structural integrity.

What to Expect:

Students will receive guidance as they develop their own designs within a square prism or pyramid form. The class covers the complete process of constructing a three-dimensional stained glass piece, from initial design through final assembly.

Students will work through glass cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering, with an emphasis on how each stage contributes to the fit and stability of the final form. Individual panels will be soldered flat before being assembled into a 3D structure

While working in stained glass, participants engage in seated and standing activities such as cutting and assembling glass pieces. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity. Learn more about accessibility on our website.

Eligibility: This course is intended for intermediate-level students and builds on techniques learned in an introductory stained glass class. Designs are limited to a maximum of 20 pieces of glass.  An introductory stained glass class or equivalent experience is required.. Open to ages 14 and up.

We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class.
