Boro 101: line drawing with glass

February 8th - February 9th

We are experiencing technical difficulties with the registration via the website.  To sign up for this class use the direct link HERE.  We apologize for any inconvenience.  Please reach out if you are having trouble signing up and we will work with you to get you registered.

In this beginner level class, students will explore various ways of using rods of borosilicate glass to create three dimensional line drawings and networked sculptures.  Students will learn to bend and shape rods of glass and connect rods to create stable, stress-free pieces. Students are encouraged to come with ideas, sketches, questions and curious, open minds.  Rather than focusing on finishing pieces, this class is designed to help you find the right method of making.  That said, students will be able to complete small projects during the class time if they choose to.

What to Expect: Flameworking requires a little practice at heat control with the torch to create successful pieces. After demonstrations, expect to make some successful objects in this class, and a couple failures, while gaining more confidence and skill in the studio. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.

Flameworking can involve a mix of seated and standing activities, including working with glass rods and torches. The environment can be bright and loud at times. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity. Learn more about accessibility on our website.

Eligibility: No experience required. Open to ages 14+.

Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight each week, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
