Virtual Open Studios Beach Day - Saturday

August 22nd, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

With the energy of a summer day at the beach in mind, we will take you through three demonstrations in our studio showcasing a variety of glassmaking techniques. Demonstrations will be narrated by an expert glass artist explaining the process you are watching, followed by a Q & A session. Demonstrations will include:

Sandcasting: Ladling hot glass into impressions made in sand to create objects in that form.

Fusing: Cutting, layering and fusing colorful sheet glass using the heat of a kiln to create functional and sculptural objects.

Flameworking: Heating, melting and sculpting glass rods and tubes in the flame of a torch to create wearable beads or small-scale sculptures.

In between each demo, participate in a fun, hands-on activity, inspired by the many colors of glass, that you can create in your own home as you watch!

Materials needed for at home paper mosaics activity with artist Courtney McCloskey:
-cardboard (to be used as the base)
-construction paper, patterned paper, etc.
-scissors
-glue
-any fun accent supplies - sequins, glitter, stickers, etc.

This virtual event is open to all, and we ask that you pay-what-you-can ($10 recommended) to help us continue to create this programming!
