The Cool Side of Glass – Carving the Block

Starting with a colorful block of glass, students will be introduced to a wide range of Cold Shop equipment to create small scale objects and sculptures by carving their block. Areas covered will include sawing, grinding and polishing, drilling, wheel cutting, wheel and flexible shaft engraving, sandblasting and hand lapping. Each of these techniques allow for an array of possibilities when creating in the cold shop. Hands on work will be complemented by a short presentation on historical and contemporary cold worked glass.

Friday, July 7th 6pm-9pm
Saturday & Sunday July 8th & 9th 11am-5pm both days
What to Expect: A brief presentation on engraved and carved glass will be followed by short demos and hands-on work. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Eligibility: No experience necessary. Open to ages 14 and up.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
