Finding Your Voice Using Solid Boro

June 24th - June 28th
Jennifer Caldwell |

This workshop will explore the fundamental techniques of solid sculpting with a torch using borosilicate glass, images, and sketchbooks to develop your individual style. As you learn basic borosilicate sculpting skills, you will build a strong foundation for future compositions. We will discuss how the core techniques for making a fin on a fish, for example, can also be used for a dragon, bird, bee, etc. Through skill building exercises and group discussions we will explore the technical and conceptual aspects of the medium while cultivating ideas in flameworked glass.

Demonstrations and discussions will focus on basic torch/tool safety, basic glass movement, adding bits, various color applications, drawing out soft lines and curves, and assembling parts to make larger sculptures.

This class has access to Student Hours for the semester, dedicated hours open to student use. Glass processes take practice, so utilize this free time in our studios to learn! For details email Kellie at kelliek@urbanglass.org.
