Scratching the Surface

May 10th, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Jane Bruce |

A basic knowledge of coldworking techniques can help right many wrongs created in the kiln, hot, or flame shops. However, when explored for its own inherent value and integrated into an artist’s menu of glass working techniques, coldworking can be used to finish and enhance work to a new level. This comprehensive one-day class will introduce students to the possibilities available when working through the typical equipment found in a cold shop. Class will explore grinding, polishing, engraving, sandblasting, and hand finishing the surface of glass. Glass blanks will be provided; however, you are encouraged to bring two or three glass objects of your own to work on. A short presentation on historical and contemporary cold worked glass will compliment hands-on work and handouts outlining machine usage will be provided for future reference. Open to all skill levels.
