Queer Glass: An Intro to Graphic Stained Glass
August 22nd - August 26thAustin Frantz |
This five day course will provide an introduction to creating copper foil “tiffany style” stained glass panels, with a modern twist! This class is designed for beginners and intermediate students, and you will leave with a finished stained glass piece that you’ve made from a pattern you select. We will cover the fundamentals of cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering glass, through a mix of short demos and hands-on instruction. We will also be touching on some more advanced methods, such as drawing a pattern digitally to print, using a glass ring saw for tricky cuts, and shaping lead came as a border to give strength to your panel. Students will learn the finishing touches, like applying hanging hardware, patina and waxing.
What to Expect: Students will have 8 to 12 pre-made patterns to choose from, which are under 10 inches in any direction, and will get to choose their own glass colors from a selection. Short demos will be followed by hands-on guidance in finishing your piece. We will be going over a few advanced techniques, but beginners are welcome. Students will leave with a finished, ready to hang piece. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Additional work time for intensive students: Students will also have access to additional hours in the studio, without instruction, on Wednesday - Saturday from 1-4pm.
Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
