This workshop is perfect for those who have completed an introductory glassblowing class and want to refine their technique. With a focus on timing, control, and precision, you’ll strengthen two essential skills: keeping your work centered on the pipe and smoothly transferring pieces from the pipe to the punty.

This class will begin with a brief review of best practices when making a punty, but will primarily focus on playing a game called "Punty Ball" where teams will pass the solid objects from one punty to another without dropping them and score points accordingly. Beginning with a sphere, you'll focus on the timing and temperature necessary for a successful transfer, then approach recentering strategies for spheres and other shapes should you fall off center in the process. By sticking to solid glass, this session is designed to build confidence and strengthen your foundation in a supportive, skill-focused environment without the worry of breaking your gorgeous (but delicate) cups!

Whether you're looking to bridge the gap between beginner and intermediate or just want to sharpen your skills, this workshop will help you solidify your glassblowing fundamentals.

What to Expect: Students will work together and learn to manipulate molten glass (2000 degrees). Safety and tools will all be covered in a fun and exciting environment. As this is a drill based class, do not expect to create complete works. The hot shop is a loud studio, and can get quite warm. Glassblowing involves a variety of activities including sitting, standing, and working with hot glass. The environment can be very hot and loud at times. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity and ability to lift 5-10 lbs approximately. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page. To learn more about accessibility the Accessibility page on our website.

Eligibility: No previous experience necessary. Open to ages 14 and up.

Pick-up: As this is a drill based class, do not expect to create complete works that would need to be picked up.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
