Next Steps: Line, an Introduction to Cane

March 28th - March 29th
Ben Sharp |

In this weekend workshop, students will plunge into the process of pulling colorful glass cane. Canes, or rods of glass, have been used for hundreds of years to apply decorative lines and complex designs in the hot shop. Students will learn the building blocks of applying cane, and will explore both classic and contemporary use of lines in their work. With a strong emphasis on the fundamentals of the cane pulling process, students will build the confidence to continue the traditions of pulling cane on their own.

Some glassblowing experience required.

This class is offered as part of the Next Steps series, a group of weekend hot shop classes designed to focus and expand students’ skills. Take multiple Next Steps weekends to gain access to student hours. Contact kelliek@urbanglass.org for more information.
