Mosaics in Space

January 26th - February 16th
John Drury |

With a basic understanding of mosaic, in its traditionally flat sense, we will bump the volume up a notch to investigate the process in the third dimension. The ‘rules’ are the same, only the game has changed! This four-session course allows us the time to experiment with this ancient technical procedure, to new and exciting ends. PowerPoint presentations will cover the dos-and-don’ts of the process for both indoor and outdoor projects, examples of mosaic both contemporary and ancient to spark inspiration and reveal new possibilities, and will precede discussion on the possibilities of intervention, reclamation and upcycling. We will start with a smaller project then move to a more complex 3D composition. Students will look outside of the classroom to personal experience, and to their own physical environments, reflecting this age-old technique to new and glorious ends. This hands-on course is the perfect offering for those makers comfortable with two-dimensions and interested to expand their creative vocabulary to three. Or as a follow up to our one day mosaic classes. No glass experience necessary.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
