Intro to Pâte de Verre
October 7th - November 18thAullar Mateo |
In this class students will learn to create Pâte de Verre, an ancient artform, in a modern context. We will go over the basics of working with water based clay, alginate, victory brown modeling wax, and how to build plaster+silica molds. Each student will get the opportunity to create up to 3 unique pieces. We will also go over creating kiln schedules and how heat affects the outcome of each piece. This class will have demonstrations and work time each week. Please come prepared to get messy and be creative!
This class will not meet on November 4th
What to Expect: Students should expect to leave the class with up to 3 projects (under 6” in any direction). Work will be cast during the class weeks, no firings will go beyond the end of class. We will be casting primarily with bullseye clear cullet, and will have access to whatever additional colored frit or powder is available. Clothing that you don’t mind getting messy and stained should be worn, aprons will also be available for studio use. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Eligibility: No previous experience required, but this is also an excellent class for students with experience in other kilnforming or casting techniques.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
