Hot Shop Projects

March 27th - May 1st
Romina Gonzales |

Hot Shop Projects is designed for students who have a specific hot glass project or idea in mind. It is an opportunity to receive technical guidance, access to the hot shop, and the support of a diverse team to explore and accomplish said idea(s) on a weekly basis over a period of 6 weeks. The scope of the projects can be very diverse. Students can work with traditional blowing techniques, solid work and sculpting, hot assembly, various color applications, and performance based work. Ladling cannot be accommodated. Class will have access to the cold shop for the last three weeks of class to parallelly finalize the pieces made, and to learn about what is involved in taking this final part of the process into consideration when making work in the hot shop. Gluing can also be covered for mixed media projects if necessary. Sculptures, vessels, lighting, and everything in between is welcome! Previous glassblowing experience required. Students must be able to blow and cap, gather, and put a jackline on their own.
