Glass Survey: Materials and Matter

This course will introduce you to the breadth of possibilities in working with re/up-cycled material in all four fundamental areas of glass. This survey class will give students a brief, hands-on introduction to the wide array of glassmaking processes. Over 8 weeks, we will move through four different studio areas, learning the fundamentals of glassblowing, torch working, flat glass, and cold working, with an emphasis on recycled or up-cycled material! Students will gain comprehension necessary to reduce waste, lower financial barriers, and create unique works of art. Following with conversations on climate, artistic practice and the wider possibilities in each technique.

What to Expect: After a brief demonstration, students will get hands-on experience in each studio, creating an object that demonstrates the possibilities in that technique with the teacher's guidance. Eligibility: No experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.

Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work. 

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. 

We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be canceled within two weeks of the start date of class.
