Furnace Friends: Fundamental Glass Strategies for Artists

This all levels class will explore the foundations of glass furnace working. By focusing on gathering and using the heat of the furnace, students will learn glass working basics and achieve efficiency of movement in the hot shop. Quick blowing and sculpting exercises on how to create a variety of glass forms will give the artist a basic vocabulary of shapes to utilize in creating unique work in glass. Practice in punty transfer for a wide range of situations, bit preparation, various color application techniques and introduction to the cold shop round out this workshop. Artists will leave the class with a foundation of knowledge for Furnace working hot glass.
