Dessert Party
February 2nd - February 16thErica Rosenfeld, Alison Siegel |
In this strange time when we are all unable to gather around a table with family and friends, food still has the ability to bring people together, break down barriers in human relationships, and provide some much needed joy. During this three-session course, students will be asked to challenge their ideas about the function of food as an art material through food safe mold making and marshmallow casting demonstrations, food art lectures, class discussions, and group brainstorming sessions. The class will culminate in a virtual dessert party, where the group will virtually display any edible experiments they created and share favorite recipes for everyone to have.
Using our own home kitchens as workshops, students will be encouraged to use what they have around them to experiment with the techniques demonstrated in the workshop. While resources for sourcing materials will be provided, no specific moldmaking materials are required to participate. However, the following kitchen tools are needed in order to safely and successfully make the marshmallow:
Large electric mixer in their kitchen (no hand held)
Large saucepan
Measuring cup and spoons
Rubber spatula
Large kitchen knife
Wax Paper
Paper towels
Clothes you don’t mind getting messy
Tupperware for food storage
Marshmallow ingredients:
Sugar
Corn syrup
Gelatin
Vanilla
Salt
Pam cooking spray
Confectioner sugar
