Business in the Making

This course is for the glassmaker looking to begin their own business or launch their own brand of products, whether it be tabletop pieces, lighting or design objects. In the classroom, we will cover business plan and branding exercises, as well as discuss basic accounting practices, pricing and marketing strategies. Whether you already have a product in mind or are in the process of developing one, we will go through the steps involved in making and launching a viable product.

The six weeks will be split between the classroom and the hot shop. This is not a glassblowing skill course, but rather a 6-week exercise in business and brand building. The hot shop will be utilized to create “prototypes” of objects to be used in conjunction with pricing and branding discussions. Please come prepared to brainstorm and participate as a group. Some personal exercises outside of class will be necessary.
