Blown Away: Intro to Glassblowing (2 weeks | Grades 10-12)

August 8th - August 19th

Grades 10+11+12

Molten glass is like honey; it drips, stretches, and expands in unique and unexpected ways. Glassblowing is the ancient artform of manipulating molten glass to create functional and sculptural objects. Students will learn the fundamentals of working with furnace glass, including studio safety, proper tool use, and how to work collaboratively to create finished pieces. Students will practice basic skills, gain confidence in the studio, and work in teams to craft more complex, inventive, colorful forms.

UrbanGlass is excited to offer this class through our partnership with STEM Matters NYC,  with support from the NYC Department of Education (DOE). STEM Matters NYC partners with cultural institutions across the city to offer a variety of enrichment programs during Spring Break and Summer for students in grades K-12. All educational programs are FREE, with priority given to students who attend Title I schools.

Students will be selected through an application process. To be notified when the application opens, please join the STEM Matters NYC mailing list by signing up here:
