Class Schedule: Friday, June 6th, 6-9pm, Saturday & Sunday, June 7th & 8th,10am-6pm both days
This three day intensive workshop is about refining foundational skills needed to make just about anything. We will build confidence and self-reliance in the hot shop by better understanding timing, thickness, and heat as well as practice going bigger- all skills that I focused on in preparation to compete on Blown Away: Extreme Heat. Students can expect to practice basic blown forms like cylinders, cones, and spheres, and dip into compound shapes and sculpting.
What to Expect: The class will begin with hot shop demos and then move to guided work time. I hope to give each student as much individual work time as in my demos so there will be plenty of time for practice. Students can expect to go home with finished objects, but the focus of the class is a lot more about technical skill-building than finished objects. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity and ability to lift 5-10 lbs approximately. To learn more about accessibility the Accessibility page on our website.
Eligibility: Previous glassblowing experience is important for the success of a student in this workshop. Students who consider themselves intermediate-level glassblowers will do best in this class, but advanced beginner are welcome. Students should be able to consistently pop a bubble and know the basics of glassblowing. Open to ages 14 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at arianna@urbanglass.org if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.
