Beading as Storytelling: A Tactile Studio in Color and Repetition
August 14th - August 16thShongee Matangira |
Class Schedule: Friday, August 14th, 6-9pm, Saturday & Sunday, August 15th & 16th, 10am-6pm both days
In this extended workshop, artist Shongee Matangira introduces beadwork as a tactile practice that supports focus, creative exploration, and sustained making. Participants will learn simple beading techniques through brief demonstrations and ample hands-on studio time. The class explores how color, repetition, and touch can hold memory and meaning across cultures and personal histories. Beginner-friendly and open to all skill levels, the workshop centers process over perfection. Participants will work on a beaded piece developed at their own pace.
What to Expect:
No prior beading experience is required. This is a hands-on, studio-based workshop with brief demonstrations and individualized guidance. Depending on the complexity of the chosen image or base, students may complete a finished piece or leave with a substantial portion completed, along with the skills to continue independently. The workshop emphasizes process over perfection and allows meaning to emerge through sustained making.
