Fries With That?: John Miller's oversized goblet (H 48 in.) was just one of many created during his ongoing Museum of Glass residency.
Tonight at 5:30 PM, Traver Gallery Tacoma will host a reception for John Miller, celebrating his week-long residency next door at the Museum of Glass. Since last Wednesday, Miller has been hard at work as a visiting artist, producing a series of larger-than-life goblets—each approximately four feet in height, all sharing in Miller’s well-known love of living large (inside and outside the hot shop).
Three co-stars have joined Miller so far: Richard Royal on Wednesday, Paul Marioni on Friday, and Rik Allen today (Watch live streaming here) who will also be at tonight’s reception. (Randy Walker will make his entrance on Sunday.) Each of these four artists will offer their unique styles to the designs of the goblet stems. The finished pieces will be displayed at the Habatat Gallery in September 2010, as well as SOFA CHICAGO in November 2010. In addition, Miller will present both a slide-show and lecture at Museum of Glass’s theatre tomorrow, Sunday, at 2 PM.
