Opening: Glass design show “Breakable” will debut at Heller Gallery on Friday evening

FILED UNDER: Exhibition, New Work, Opening

Opening Friday, May 7th, “BREAKABLE: Glass By Design” will showcase new work that pushes the limits of glass as a material for cutting-edge design. Organized by the American Design Club in association the Heller Gallery, the exhibition will overlap with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair which runs from May 15th — 18th, 2010. The “BREAKABLE” exhibition will continue through May 28th, 2010, and a special reception on Sunday, May 16th, will celebrate the “Best in Show,” which will be announced that same evening.

This will be the fourth competition/exhibition organized by a group of designers, three of whom are principals at Rich, Brilliant, Willing, a Manhattan-based contemporary design firm known for pushing the limits of materials in their work. Their first such exhibition, titled “Outside of Sorts,” took place in 2008 and explored the concept of “outside” in a wide range of design objects.

The objects in this exhibition were designed by 32 individual or collaborative partnerships. Among those designers possibly familiar to glass collectors are Nancy Callan, Susan Clark, Robert DuGrenier, Esque Studios, Kim Harty, Helen Lee, and Erica Rosenfeld.
