With an opening reception last Sunday, “On the Edge,” an exhibition of contemporary glass from artists based in Ireland and Southwest England debuted at the National Craft Gallery in Kilkenny, Ireland. The exhibition features work by artists such as Colin Reid, RóisÍn de Buitléar, Will Shakespeare, and Caroline Madden.

“Ireland has a great heritage of glassmaking and this exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to see the contemporary work of glass artists living here in Ireland alongside that of their international peers,” said Úna Parsons, the ceo of the Crafts Council of Ireland in a prepared statement.

The Crafts Council will hold two informal evening events which are free and open to the public. On Friday, January 29th, from 6:30 — 8:30 PM, artist and lecturer Caroline Madden from the Glass Society of Ireland will lead a discussion, and on Friday, February 26th, artist and curator Mary Mackey will hold court.

“On the Edge” is a touring exhibition organized by the Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum, in partnership with the Crafts Council of Ireland. It was curated by Mary Mackey and Chinks Grylls. The exhibition runs through March 20th, 2010, at the National Craft Gallery in Castle Yard, Kilkenny. Admission is free.
