New Glass Review presents best 100 out of 2,500 submissions

FILED UNDER: Book Report, New Work, News

The 2010 edition of New Glass Review will be released on June 1st.

Officially going on sale in early June but already hitting mailboxes of artists whose work was selected, the 31st annual juried exhibition in print known as New Glass Review once again presents a juried survey of new work in glass. Representing 100 objects winnowed down from 2,503 digital images submitted by 888 artists hailing from 43 countries, the work in the most recent edition was chosen by Tina Oldknow, curator of modern glass at Corning; Jon Clark, recently retired head of the glassblowing program at Tyler; Rosa Barovier Mentasti, curator and critic; and Zesty Meyers, owner of R 20th Century gallery in New York City.

In her essay in New Glass Review, Oldknow writes about how artwork from glass is broadening to include a wider variety of approaches to the material. “I am always interested in work that expands the way in which glass may be used, not only conceptually but also physically.” Among the works she cites as examples of “new formats” are Kait Rhoads’ wired assemblage of glass in her work Sunset and Erica Rosenfeld‘s glass textile entitled Fulton Street at 1 a.m., both included among the 100 selected works.
