The Museum of Glass announced that Gail Weyerhaeuser, a local clinical psychologist in Tacoma, Washington, will take over as the new president of the board of trustees. “We are thrilled to have Dr. Weyerhaeuser at the helm of the Museum’s Board,” said Susan Warner, Executive Director of Museum of Glass, in a prepared statement. The new board president is also the cousin of the late George Weyerhaueuser, who served for 14 years on the board of the museum before his untimely death earlier this year.
Weyerhaeuser, who brings experience serving on boards of area non-profit organizations, said in a prepared statement: “I look forward to this new challenge, to working with the Board on the strategic decisions ahead and to the opportunity it brings for expanding my understanding of the art of glass and glass making. Stepping into this role is a way to acknowledge and honor the work of my cousin George Weyerhaeuser, Jr. at the Museum.” The Weyerhaeuser family recently made a $1 million gift in George’s memory.
Gail and her husband, Bill Weyerhaeuser, have been supporters of the arts in Tacoma and the Puget Sound region. In her statement, she calls the glass museum “a wonderful asset to Tacoma.”
