The Salisbury University glass department, which has the distinction of being the only university-level glassblowing program in the state of Maryland, is seeking an assistant professor in its art department. The teaching position requires specialization in hot glass and 3-D studio art, and the successful applicant will be teaching three hot glass classes per semester with a total of 18 contact hours of teaching per week. The deadline to apply is October 22nd, and all applications are being taken online only.
According to the online job posting, the job responsibilities include maintaining the glass studio, building and maintaining equipment in glass, and implementing and adhering to safety protocols. Additional requirements include program development for glass, active recruitment of majors, advisement, and departmental committee work.

The successful applicant will have a minimum of an MFA with an emphasis on hot glass, and those with prior teaching experience and an active record of exhibitions are preferred. Applicants must submit their qualifications as part of an online application process that includes a letter of application, a resume, two sample syllabi, and a statement of teaching philosophy. Transcripts, exhibition records, and five professional references are also required. Twenty images of work are to be sent on a mailed CD to the Salisbury University Art Department to the attention of M.K. Brown (1101 Camden Avenue, Salisbury, MD 21801).
The online posting states: “Applications submitted by October 22, 2012 will receive first consideration. The position will remain open until filled. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be contingent upon verification of eligibility to work in the U.S. and is expected to begin August 15, 2013.”
