ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY for GLASS ARTIST

Full-Time Faculty Position

The glass program is part of an innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate Crafts curriculum that includes programs in ceramics, fibers, jewelry/metals, and wood/furniture. Students may specialize, or they may choose to mix two or more media.

The successful candidate will possess a broad vision of the field and an interest in and knowledge of visual culture and contemporary craft issues, and will be enthusiastic about joining Philadelphia’s vibrant arts community. The candidate’s professional practice may include blown/cast glass, stained glass, one-of-a-kind studio art, architectural/commissioned work, and/or production/multiples in any combination. The candidate must have a desire to teach in and help develop an evolving curriculum, and have the vision, leadership and technical skills to head the glass program and oversee the operation of the glass studios.

Applicants must possess an MFA or equivalent professional experience and have an active professional creative practice. Teaching experience preferred.

Review of applications for position will begin on or about March 1, 2010. Late applications will be accepted and evaluated until position is filled.

Applicants must send hard copy of the following materials:
  • A one-page cover letter expressing interest in the position and summarizing qualifications
  • Résumé
  • An artist’s statement
  • A statement of teaching philosophy
  • Names and contact information for three references
  • Portfolio description listing title, materials, dimensions and date for each image with thumbnails (contact sheet) for all images

Applicants must also send the following on a Mac-compatible CD (no DVD’s):
  • PDF portfolio of professional work, a minimum of 20 images. Individual images should be at least 1024×768 and no larger than 1600×1200.
  • Examples of students’ work may also be submitted if available
  • Electronic versions (in RTF or PDF format) of all hard copy documents submitted

Additional materials (articles and reviews, show announcements, syllabi, etc.) may be included. No submitted materials will be returned.
