Call for Submissions: 2010 British Glass Biennale seeks U.K.-based artists

The 2010 British Glass Biennale is now seeking submissions from U.K.based artists, designers, and craftspeople, working in all areas of contemporary glass practice, or using glass as a key design element. This year’s event will differ from years past in a new emphasis on the juried open submissions. The British Glass Biennale, in association with the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers, will present The 2010 Glass Sellers Award for £5,000 with a runner-up prize of £1,000, as well as a Glass Sellers Student Award of £1,000 with a runner-up prize of £500.


The jury will include Annabelle Campbell, exhibitions and collections manager, Crafts Council; Reino Liefkes, senior curator, ceramics and glass collection, V & A Museum; Sylva Petrova, director, Institute for International Research in Glass, University of Sunderland; Alan J. Poole of Dan Klein Associates; and Colin Reid, glass artist.

At the end of April, the names of those artists selected by the jury will be published, and there will be an awards ceremony on August 26th at the Ruskin Glass Centre.

In 2008, 81 artists were selected to exhibit, with Tracy Nicholls winning the British Glass Biennale Award, Bob Crooks winning the Glass Sellers Award, and Timothy Boswell the Glass Sellers Student Award.


The 2010 British Glass Biennale will take place from August 27th to September 11th, 2010 and coincide with the International Festival of Glass. Open 10 AM to 5 PM daily, admission to the Biennale will be free.

The British Glass Bienalle is supported by the Arts Council England, The Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers,the Ruskin Mill Educational Trust.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 26th, 2010, at 5 PM.
