This evening, the Westin Seattle will once again play host to the longest-running (33 years) and biggest fundraiser in glass — the Pilchuck Annual Auction. The event will offer special recognition for its longtime patrons John and Anne Gould Hauberg, on whose land The Pilchuck Glass School was established in 1971. This evening’s auction features work from 270 established and emerging artists. The seated dinner and auction event will be graced by table centerpieces designed by Rob Stern, who designed each of the 75 glass objects to be related but unique (read more here) with the help of a team of volunteers named the Poleturners Union, Local 1201. This year’s packed auction catalog is notable in the numerous offerings below $5,000, and the top estimates only include two works over $30,000 (Hiroshi Yanamo and Dale Chihuly) and two works over $25,000 (Davide Salvatore and Michael Glancy).

Hiroshi Yanamo's work Fish Hanger is topping out the offerings in the 2011 Pilchuck Auction with an estimate of $35,000.

This year’s auction cochairs are Nordstrom couture manager Pia Jacobsen, artist Benjamin Moore, and artist Deborah Moore, and The event gets underway at 5 PM (PST) this evening and will continue until 11 PM. The live auction is scheduled to begin at 9:15 PM (PST). Bidding is also available online, but you must register in advance at the Website www.bidspotter.com.
