Sculpting 101

July 25th - July 29th
Trenton Quiocho |

Immerse yourself into the world of solid, hot-sculpted glass in this 5-day intensive class! You will be working in the hot shop with a variety of torches and tools to create detailed artworks, and incorporating various ways to apply color and texture. This course will be a general overview on solid sculpting and assemblage.

What to Expect: Students will focus on learning and improving sculpting techniques and color applications, rather than finalizing finished pieces during this 5-day intensive. Each day will start with a demonstration, followed by practice time where students can create sculptures based on techniques learned during the demonstration. Demonstration times may vary, but student practice times will be a priority. This class will start with basic sculpting techniques, color applications, and gradually build to more complex sculpting involving parts, texture, and color layering as the week progresses. Hot-sculpting glass requires the use of torches, sculpting tools, and specialty equipment. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.

Additional work time for intensive students: Students will also have access to additional hours in the glassblowing studio, without instruction, on Wednesday - Saturday from 1-4pm.

Eligibility: Two years of glassblowing experience or an intermediate skill level is recommended.

Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up any work made hot on the final day.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
