From ancient murals across the globe to modern subway art, mosaics are all around us! This timeless artform decorates the floors, walls, and ceilings of the spaces we inhabit, letting us step into stories of the past. Beginning with an understanding of the origins of mosaics and a glassblowing demonstration of how flat glass is made, students will learn how to design, cut, glue, and grout their own mosaic masterpiece. Piecing together simple patterns or elaborate imagery, students will tell their own colorful stories inspired by personal identity and experiences.
UrbanGlass is excited to offer this class through our partnership with STEM Matters NYC, with support from the NYC Department of Education (DOE). STEM Matters NYC partners with cultural institutions across the city to offer a variety of enrichment programs during Spring Break and Summer for students in grades K-12. All educational programs are FREE, with priority given to students who attend Title I schools.
Students will be selected through an application process. To be notified when the application opens, please join the STEM Matters NYC mailing list by signing up here: https://spep.libwizard.com/f/mailinglist
