In Conversation: Julien Giry and Nate Ricciuto

August 17th, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Join us for a Zoom presentation and discussion with Julien Giry, a scholar focused on research of contemporary conspiracy theories, and artist Nate Ricciuto, whose solo exhibition is currently on view at UrbanGlass Gallery. Julien and Nate will give us their respective takes on conspiracy theories - one scholarly, the other one artistic - and why they find it important to talk about this curious wide-spreading phenomenon.

Julien Giry, Ph.D., Tours University / PRIM. Julien is a French political scientist. Since 2009, he has been working on conspiracy theories and far right activism in France and the United States. More recently, he leads investigations on disinformation, fake news and anti-vaccine belief.

Nate Ricciuto is a multidisciplinary artist whose work envisions design, architecture and craft as existing in the odd space between technology and fantasy. He combines glass with various other materials to create installations and ambiances of a playful and surreal quality that explore the intersection of alternative narratives, disruptive tactics and homespun ingenuity. Drawing on sci-fi imagery, outsider ideologies and countercultural aspirations, Ricciuto investigates the potential of delusion and speculation while embracing idealistic, inclusive, radical and flawed visions of the future.
