Glass Harmonica-Zoetrope Hybrid: A Special Event at UrbanGlass

June 6th, 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Christopher Duffy |

In this short workshop, join artist Christopher Duffy at the intersection of glass, sound, kinetics, light, and performance.

A short lecture and discussion on the history, design, and construction of two antiquated audio visual devices, the Glass Harmonica and the Zoetrope, will lead into a conversation about the artists own work and current projects.

Participants will get the chance to play with simple animation techniques and sonic elements in relation to glass, exploring the optics, surface, and potential of this fascinating material.

Duffy will then demonstrate how to make a part of the Glass Harmonica in the hot shop, and will hold a simple performance activating a custom made hybrid sculpture combining some of the elements of the Glass Harmonica, Zoetrope, as well as other sound and light elements.
