Batoz’ Ladder

December 12th, 12:00 am – 12:00 am

Opening reception is Wednesday, December 12th, 6-8pm.

Batoz’ Ladder is a multimedia installation incorporating neon lights and sound. Unbent neon tubes are paired with ready-made objects to create illuminated sculptures.  While the ladders have several metaphorical meanings, the installation's extreme fragility alludes to glass ceilings and social stratification. Russell's score accompanies the sculptures, incorporating music, samples, and some of his own production to invite viewers into this fabricated environment.

"Batoz’ Ladder refers to passage in the Book of Genesis that details Jacob’s dream while travelling about a connection Heaven and Earth. If this connection exists, are we worthy of its readiness? Who is the “ladder” for? As we continue to live in a society where individuals & governments compete for limited resources, we should thoroughly examine our pre-existing hierarchical systems and the effects of social Darwinism."
