Richard Paz

Richard Paz is a multidisciplinary visual artist and educator, based in Newark, New Jersey. Paz utilizes a variety of media to explore ideas surrounding personal identity, relationships, and social issues. For over nineteen years, Richard has developed his skills in glass, creating sculptural work and statement jewelry. As a teaching artist, Richard has empowered students of all ages to think creatively and realize new visions for their futures. Since participating in the Newark Museum of Art's Diversifying Art Museum Leadership Initiative, Paz has committed to creating opportunities and spaces that make the arts accessible to all. Paz’s artwork has been exhibited with the Newark Museum of Art, Artfront Galleries, Paul Robeson Galleries, City Without Walls, and Penland Gallery. Paz continues to develop his practice while pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rutgers University - Newark.

Workshop

Explore the fauna of the world in this fun introductory class! Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of flameworking by creating beads and small sculptures inspired by animals. The class will explore the basics of sculpting and surface design, and touch on concepts like tool use, annealing, studio safety, and more! You can expect to make between 2 - 6 successful glass critters in this class, and a couple failures, while gaining confidence and a solid foundation working with soft glass.
