Warren Langley’s “Touching Lightly” unveiled in Kingston during Canberra Glassworks’ 3rd anniversary

As Canberra Glassworks holds its third birthday festivities, a landmark glassworks tower was created and unveiled in unison with the celebrations. The tower was created by acclaimed Australian artist Warren Langley, and is notably establishing itself as a new landmark for the Kingston shoreline. Housed in previously recognized Kingston Power House, Canberra Glassworks’ tower addition is a “stunning reminder of the heritage of the area.”

Warren Langley is one of Australia’s most acclaimed artists working with glass and lighting, and this work is another fine addition to his growing list of major international and national commissions throughout the world. Touching Lightly, is a 25-metre high internally-lit tower that shimmers during the day and glows with blue lights at night, powered by green energy.

Langley’s newest work is made of a galvanized steel frame surrounded by toughened glass and rings of LED lights. Its components were fabricated in Sydney and assembled in Canberra over three weeks with the help of local artists and traders. The landmark project was jointly funded by the ACT Government, ActewAGL and Land Development Agency, and is a fine example of organization-financed public art projects.
