Currently at a temporary location in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, New York, while its home building and studios are being completely renovated, UrbanGlass (the nonprofit that publishes the GLASS Quarterly Hot Sheet) is seeking an executive director who will realize the vision of UrbanGlass to be the first and foremost place where art is made using glass.

With an expected annual operating budget of $1.5 to $2.0 million, and a staff of 10 once fully operational, UrbanGlass programs include artist access to glass-making facilities, college credit courses, a full range of instruction from introductory classes to masterclass workshops, GLASS Quarterly (a critical journal on glass as an artistic medium), on and off-site exhibitions, The Bead Project (an entrepreneurial initiative) and visiting artist fellowships. Its ground floor presence on Fulton Street includes gallery space, an artist supply store and a retail store, all visible to the public through glass frontage that received one of the prestigious NYC Awards for Excellence in Design.

The Executive Director will achieve UrbanGlass’s short-term goals:

  • Successfully complete the current capital campaign.
  • Manage the transition back to Fulton Street by September 2013.
  • Reinstitute and expand its programming for artists, students, designers, architects and the general public.
  • Increase awareness of UrbanGlass as an art center.
  • Represent UrbanGlass to all its constituencies.

Long-term, the Executive Director will propel UrbanGlass into a leadership role in the contemporary art, design and local communities in Brooklyn and New York.

UrbanGlass offers competitive salary and benefits and is an Equal Opportunity employer.

To apply, please submit a letter of interest and resume to UrbanGlass interim executive director Lawrence Pitterman at larry@urbanglass.org.

Glass: The UrbanGlass Quarterly, a glossy art magazine published four times a year by UrbanGlass has provided a critical context to the most important artwork being done in the medium of glass for more than 40 years.
