Help Wanted: Seattle’s Pratt Fine Arts Center seeks glass studio manager

The Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Washington, is searching for a glass studio manager to oversee their fully-equipped studios and glass class programs. This position will require working closely with the administrative and development departments at Pratt, and responsibilities include overseeing the department budget, curriculum, and management of the entire glass studio including Pratt’s hot, cold, and flame shops, as well as their kiln-forming facilities. Applicants can expect to work 32 hours per week with compensation based on previous experience and qualifications. Interested applicants will need to be swift in preparing their applications before the rapidly approaching deadline of Wednesday, March 3oth.

The position involves supervising and working closely with studio employees, such as long-serving Pratt studio technician Chuck Lopez. The manager will also be regarded as a reliable source of information and help for students, instructors, and technicians regarding any issue within the studio, and will be expected to fluidly and effectively switch between the management and customer-service duties throughout the day as the studio environment is expected to be in a constant state of changing pace and structure.

The manager will be responsible for forming, managing, and overseeing the purchases made within the budget for the entire glass department, including all glass purchases and supplies for studio courses. Manager will be asked to oversee curriculum development including the creation of course outlines and the recruitment of master class teachers and visiting artists.

According to the official job posting on Pratt’s website, those interested in the position are expected to have earned BFA with glass studio experience, be knowledgeable about all forms of glass art practiced at Pratt, as well as the wider glass community. Experience managing staff and teaching in a studio glass setting are highly recommended, as well as a commitment to excellent customer service and the ability to work with a variety of people.
