Help Wanted: Bowling Green seeks assistant professor for tenure-track position

Bowling Green State University has just posted a job listing for an assistant professor of glass who will head the department. The position in the university’s glass program, an “area” within its three-dimensional-studies program, will begin in August 2011, and is on a tenure track. Any applicants will be competing with the current head of the glass area, visiting assistant professor Scott Darlington, who will be applying for the tenure-track position.

Applications must be received by January 7th, 2011. Requirements include an MFA and two years of college-level teaching experience, preferably in a position more than a teaching assistant. The successful candidate will possess high-level skills in blowing, casting, mold-making, and flat-glass techniques. Demonstrated skills managing a busy glass facility are also necessary. An impressive resume of exhibitions is preferred.

According to the official job posting, the responsibilities include the following:

  • Assume role as Glass Program Head
  • Oversee glass program personnel
  • Supervise area budget
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses
  • Oversee facility maintenance
  • Monitor shop equipment
  • Order supplies
  • Continue creative studio work and scholarly/ professional duties within the glass area, the School and the University
