HELP WANTED: Australia’s JamFactory seeks creative director for its Glass Studio

The facade of JamFactory lights up a downtown Adelaide street.

For nearly four decades, the JamFactory in Adelaide, Australia, has provided facilities, training, and community for those interested in working with craft materials. Its hotshop is the longest-running hot glass studio in Australia. After debuting in a large iron shed behind JamFactory’s original home in St Peter’s, the glass facility is now located in the JamFactory’s Morphett Street facility, and the organization claims it “is one of the largest and best equipped studios in the Southern Hemisphere.” Past creative directors of the Glass Studio have included Nick Mount and Elizabeth Kelly and over 80 artists participate in the studio’s two year Associate Program. Jam Factory is now seeking “expressions of interest” as a first step in hiring a new director of the Glass Studio.

According to an emailed announcement, JamFactory seeks an individual to provide training and mentoring for studio associates and to direct the business of studio operations. A deep knowledge of the Studio Glass field, a reputation as a designer/maker, and studio management expertise are required.

The first step to apply is to get a copy of the “position description” from Brian Parkes, JamFactory’s CEO, who can be reached via email at brian.parkes@jamfactory.com.au.

Applications must be received by Monday, October 3rd, 2011
