The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, announced today that its top curator, Melissa G. Post, has decided to leave the museum, effective Wednesday, November 17, 2010. According to a press release, Post “plans to relocate to the East Coast to be closer to her family and pursue personal interests.”

Post has held the museum’s top curatorial position since 2007. She moved to the Northwest coast from North Carolina, where she had been the assistant director of the the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and, prior to that, served on the curatorial staff of the Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte, North Carolina. The official museum announcement states that “a search for Post’s successor will begin in the near future.”

Post curated the recently closed “Preston Singletary: Echoes, Fire, and Shadows” exhibition that ran from July 11, 2009 to September 19, 2010. Her responsibilities included research and organizing exhibitions, building the museum’s permanent collection, and overseeing the visiting artist program. The museum release credits Post’s contribution to the Museum of Glass recently winning accreditation by the American Association of Museums.

In a prepared statement, museum director Timothy Close said: “For the past three years, Melissa has contributed greatly to establishing the Museum’s curatorial voice through its exhibitions and permanent collection. As curator and member of our senior staff, Melissa has brought a great deal of energy, enthusiasm, professionalism and passion to the Museum. We will miss her.”
