The exhibition provides an international showcase for new and noteworthy talent in the field of contemporary glass. Each of the finalists will be represented by up to three art works in the exhibition. One artist will be selected from the finalists for a one-artist show at a later date. Judging will take place in September 2012 and finalists will be notified by Friday, September 28, 2012. The exhibition will be documented in GLASS: The UrbanGlass Art Quarterly.
The UrbanGlass MFA Exhibition Competition is open to recent MFA graduates of glass programs in the United States and Canada. For the 2013 competition, artists must have received their MFAs within the past academic year, from Summer 2011 through Winter 2012.

About UrbanGlass
UrbanGlass, founded in 1977 as the New York Experimental Glass Workshop, is a leading resource for both aspiring and established artists wishing to create with glass. We foster innovative art and advance the use and appreciation of glass as a creative medium. It is located at 647 Fulton Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NY, on the third floor of the old Strand Theater. (During its current construction project, UrbanGlass is housed at an interim location at 126 13th Street in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, NY.) UrbanGlass is the world’s first open access glassworking facility. Previously, those interested in working in glass could only do so at art schools, in factories or by building their own studios. When UrbanGlass opened its doors, glass as an art medium became available for the first time to a wide range of artists at an affordable price.
In addition to the artist-access studio, UrbanGlass offers a comprehensive education program; visiting artist fellowships; The Bead Project, a scholarship program for economically disadvantaged women artists; GLASS: The UrbanGlass Art Quarterly; an on and off-site exhibition schedule and the Robert Lehman Gallery. UrbanGlass also includes the Atelier, The Store at UrbanGlass, and the UrbanGlass Studio Store, all of which combine to make it the most important East Coast center and resource for artist wishing to experiment with glass.
