CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - Toyama Institute of Glass Art looking for artist-in-residence candidates for 2026

Applications for the 2026 Artist in Residence program at the Toyama Institute of Glass Art (TIGA) are now officially open to artists from around the world. Established in 2010, the TIGA Artist Residency Program is dedicated to enriching and invigorating the field of contemporary glass through the creation of innovative and engaging work.

During this six-week residency, one selected artist will have the opportunity to work at the world-renowned institute, with full access to its state-of-the-art facilities, including the hot shop, kiln shop, and cold shop, as well as technical support from skilled studio assistants. Beyond studio practice, the resident artist is encouraged to engage with the local community and student body through artist lectures and demonstrations.

At the conclusion of the residency, the artist will present a solo exhibition of work created during their stay at the Toyama Glass Museum—an internationally recognized institution celebrated for its striking architecture and significant contributions to contemporary glass art through its diverse exhibitions and collections.

Past artist residents include Karlyn Sutherland (2018), Vendulka Prchalová (2023), and Robert Lewis (2025).

Application deadline: June 4, 2026 (Japan time)

Program period: October 16, 2026 – November 26, 2026
